Smera Vineyards is nestled in the heart of the Willamette Valley at 600 feet elevation, where Jory, Nekia, and Gelderman soils shape the character of the vineyard. Warm summer days are balanced by the cooling evening winds flowing through the Van Duzer Corridor, helping preserve freshness and complexity in the fruit. Our vineyard is farmed organically, and the wine is crafted with native yeast and minimal intervention to express the authenticity of the land.

This Sparkling Chardonnay pairs beautifully with spicy fritters and it can be enjoyed as a refreshing drink on a hot summer day.

Tasting Notes: A symphony of pleasing aromas; pear, tangerine, apple butter and marshmallow. Secondary notes of citrus custard emerge. The tart apple and pear on the palate give way to rounder oak notes of caramel and leaves a gentle sensation of warmth on the tongue. This Pinot Gris was crafted with love and attention.

Winemaking Notes: Pressed straight from the vineyard following the black Chardonnay style of Domaine Coche-Dury. The unsulfured, nearly black hyperoxidized juice settled in tank briefly before being racked to barrels. Fermented in barrel and aged unstirred for 8 months sur lie in 50% new and 50% used French oak barrels.

The Syrah grapes are from Columbia Valley.
Aromas of dark red fruit, dried cranberry, as well as smoked and cured meats. On the palate, this wine is a complex fruit explosion with candied fruit, dark cherry with a silky soft finish. It pairs well with Asian 5-spice pork with stir fried vegetable, Indian tandoori chicken over rice.

Chris James 2019 Dolcetto is another bold red that is produced by Chris in Yamhill-Carlton AVA. The Dolcetto grapes, an Italian classic wine is grown in the Eola-Amity Hills AVA in the Willamette Valley. This wine has intense red fruit flavors and aromatics with a acid backbone that allows this wine to stand up to bold Italian foods.

Aromas of plumeria, Maraschino cherry, ground espresso, and dark chocolate. Flavors of huckleberry, tangy hints of blueberry, plum, and some deeply steeped hibiscus tea.

This pairs well with portobello burger, Angel-hair pasta in bolognese sauce, baby back ribs, or anything done in a tomato based sauce.

Nose of beeswax, brown sugar, apricot, citrus, pineapple, lemon-lime, and a hint of saline sea breeze. The palate opens with flinty and mineral notes then finishes tropical pineapple with a hint of caramel. More Italian Pinot Grigio than Alsatian Pinot Gris, this is a very clean and balanced wine with a hint of prickly acidity, perfect with briny Kumamoto oysters on the half shell.

Brought in from the vineyard and loaded directly into the press, where it macerated for four hours with one turn per hour. Following a very slow press, moved to tank where it was stabilized and inoculated with a Burgundy yeast. Racked from tank to 25% new French oak, 25% once-filled, and 25% twice-filled, and 25% stainless barrels.

Coelho Vineyard, about 35 acres of Missoula Flood sedimentary soil in the gently rolling hills south of Amity in the Van Duzer Corridor AVA, produces high acid wines with generous fruit. Planted to 13 rows of Dijon 76 Chardonnay, 5 rows of Pinot Gris, and the balance to 50/50 Pommard and Dijon 777 clones of Pinot Noir. Pinot Noir from this vineyard displays notes of red fruit and earth. Chardonnay reveals a lemon core while Pinot Gris always has a wonderful balance of lemon-lime acid and expressive fruit.

Chris James 2017 Zinfandel is one of Chris James’s first “big reds”.  The wine originates from Oregon’s Columbia Gorge AVA and is a leaner and elegant style aged in neutral French Oak.

Incredibly rich in aromas of licorice, white pepper, frankincense, and warm blackberries ripening on the vine. A big ultra jammy combination of blackberry, blueberry, and mission figs that trick the mind into finding a deep sweetness that isn’t truly there.

This pairs well with roasted flatbreads covered in ricotta, heirloom tomatoes and apricot, a bacon and cheese filled jalapeño, or a meaty stack of baby back ribs.

The Lagrein grapes are grown on Chris James’s vineyard in Yamhill-Carlton AVA. Lagrein is a northern Italian varietal originating from the Alto Adige region. Now that it has been in bottle for ~3 years the wine has integrated and is really quite exciting.

This wine is really unique: super dark color with loads of tannin and acid. It has aromas and flavors of black berries and dark cherries.

This pairs well with variety of Italian food.

Utopia 2017 Estate 777 clone Pinot Noir offers a vibrant and attractive array of savory red and black fruit with lightly earthy and spicy oak nuances. Supple and elegantly complex showing an incredible density and concentration. Firmly structured with ripe tannins and good acidity finishing long with an earthy spiciness. Spectacular!  This was aged for 11 months in 40% new Burgundian oak barrels; 60% previously-filled Burgundian oak barrels

A grown-up version of Mac Cuvée! Stylistically the Mac Cuvee is crafted to be more fruit forward and represents all of the individual clones in the J Wrigley vineyard. This vintage yields very big wines with deep, rich color and a bold splash to your palette. A great example of how our Pinot Noir vines are maturing!

Proposal Block was the first planting at J Wrigley Vineyards and holds the story of how the owners met and began their dreams of making wine and developing a World Class Estate Winery.
